Easy Southern Fried Cabbage with Bacon

The ideal southern comfort food side dish is simple southern fried cabbage with bacon. You can prepare a delicious side dish of cabbage that everyone will like in less than 15 minutes.

The first time I cooked southern fried cabbage, I spoke with my sister-in-law to make sure I followed the family recipe exactly. My husband's sister still resides in Alabama, where he was raised.

She is my go-to person for perfecting traditional southern cuisine. She informed me that she enjoys frying up bacon, cabbage, and egg noodles in the style of the South. Although she enjoys the addition of the egg noodles to make it more of a meal, her husband prefers it heaped high on a platter all by itself.

Although I used bacon in this recipe, you could instead use smoked sausage to boost the protein content.

If you want to turn this veggie side dish into a dinner, serve it with a mouthwatering piece of cornbread and some iced tea. This quick side dish is ideal because it doesn't require hours to prepare.

You can add some sugar if you like your fried cabbage sweet.


Add 1/4 to 1/2 tsp of your preferred Cajun flavour for a spicier cabbage.
Bacon: We like to use thick-cut bacon since it makes a lot of bacon fat and is substantial enough to flavour the cabbage.

Salted or unsalted butter are both acceptable. Since we typically use unsalted butter, we may decide how much salt to add to this fantastic recipe.

Use a medium cabbage so that everything will fit in the skillet. For epic flavour, make sure to coat every piece in the bacon butter mixture.
